I've just finished reading two books written by Sonya Sones. Both books are told in verse. The first, What My Mother Doesn't Know is Sophie's story. Sophie finds herself strangely attracted to an absolute nerd. Murphy is so socially retarded that his last name is used to describe someone totally inept and when some one in their high school does something really stupid, "they've pulled a Murphy." She really comes to like Murphy but can she commit "social suicide" by actually sitting down to have lunch with him? In What my Girlfriend Doesn't Know, Murphy and Sophie continue their relationship. Sophie loses friends and is the object of ridicule for the relationship. Murphy has the opportunity to go attend an art class at Harvard and he enters this situation without a past. He finds acceptance with his peers in art class and fits in a s he never has before. But how will this affect his relationship with Sophie? The poetry of these books is so swift and sweet. I fell satisfied as if I've just eaten the finest dark chocolate!
